Background:
To support self-management, in partnership with Bond Digital Health (BDH), Bevan Commission, Swansea University and patient representatives, a digital mobile phone app was developed that allowed patients to take control of their Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). A tailored prototype of the app, through funding from Welsh Government (ETTP – £115,720), was developed and tested within 2 REC approved studies – Phase 1 (IRAS ID: 270736, REC ref:19/LO/1649) and Phase 2 (IRAS ID: 235302, REC ref: 19/WA/0347).
Outcomes:
Studies found it was acceptable and led to improved control of symptoms. Bond Digital Health and Hywel Dda University Health Board are now working together to further refine the app to maximise impact on patient wellbeing.
